The school counseling program at North Clinton Elementary seeks to provide all students with the skills necessary to be successful in their everyday academic and social lives. Not only do students attend guidance classes, but they also have the opportunity to participate in individual and small group counseling, as well. Students attend guidance for two nine-week sessions.
The school counseling program is based on the American School Counseling National Model, focusing on academic, personal/social, and career development. Some main topics covered during classroom guidance include study skills, conflict resolution, manners, feelings, bullying, and career exploration. Character Counts is our school-wide focus, in which individual students are recognized for displaying such qualities as kindness, respect, responsibility, perseverance, and much more. Some special events throughout our program include Red Ribbon Week, Careers on Wheels for K-2 students, and a career fair for sixth-grade students.
